Four years ago, Jane (the obsessive athlete and writer) and Pat (the passionate musician and composer).....moved onto Cat Maudy. A sailing catamaran. We dragged our computer business (a bunch of laptop computers), and essentials of life (bicycles, swim gear, running gear, tennis rackets, guitars and amplifiers) – along with our cats Earl and Soxy, onto our new home. One hull was filled with sporty toys, and the other filled with musician gear. It was time for new adventures – at sea.

Well, not right away. Cat Maudy was a shanty boat when we bought her. Broken down, and barely sail-able.- we rarely left the dock. She was not pretty, and in the early days, we spent most of our time fixing things.
Pat had plenty of experience fixing boats and sailing them. He built a Wharram Catamaran in the late 1970’s – and spent summers sailing on Lake Michigan. I had no experience with making boat repairs – but that was OK. We discovered that most boat yard crews don’t have a lot of experience with fixing boats either. Thankfully we had Google.
Soon Pat and I were repairing windows, and painting every inch of the boat inside and out. Pat did all of the hard core electrical, plumbing and mechanical tasks – and a year later Cat Maudy was ready for sail.
So, how does a musician and an athlete live on a boat, sail up and down the eastern seaboard, maintain a software biz and reside in a space of 12x12 feet day in and out? Don’t be shy. Come on in and find out. Enjoy Jus Say’n – a compilation of our journeys.
